Election Day is fast approaching.
Are you registered to vote? Today is the last day to register in both Maryland and Virginia.
If you have not yet registered to vote, take time to ask yourself "why"?
Why haven't you registered?
Why haven't you been out to the polls?
Why don't you want your voice heard?
Freely held elections are the hallmark of a democracy. Only when an informed electorate gets out and votes can change happen. Otherwise, our country will begin to stagnate, and the same small group of those in power will remain in power.
Have you said over the past year: I wish we could get rid of those clowns in office?
The only way to accomplish that is to get out and vote.
Don't like the way things are being run?
Get out and vote.
Take time to do some research on the candidates and what they are proposing.
Does this seem like it can happen?
Do their values match yours?
Take a look at your school boards and your county executives and commissioners. Are they best meeting the needs of the children in the schools? What are their plans going forward for funding the schools, teacher salaries, and classroom sizes?
You know, in my state, our voting district was gerrymandered so that our little rural haven- we're a farming community, up close to the Pennsylvania line - is in the same district as the folks down next to the District of Columbia line. Nothing against the people next to DC, but I'm pretty sure that their concerns are not our concerns. Urban community vs. rural community. Our Congress person keeps voting in the best interest of his constituents on the DC line - which is great for them - but he's never even been up here to meet his newly added constituents. It's like we're invisible. We're not happy. So what are going to do about it? We have put forth a massive drive to get people registered and out to vote in the elections next month.
You think your vote isn't going to matter?
Historically low turn outs in the primary elections caused some huge upsets in hotly contested Senate races.
Please take the time to make certain that you are registered to vote.
Early voting begins in the next couple of weeks, and election day itself is Nov. 2. With so many opportunities to get out and vote, make the time to get out and let your voice be heard!
