She had a tumor blocking her bowel. Behind the blockage, waste was building up and eventually, Tuesday afternoon, her bowel ruptured, spilling fecal matter throughout her abdomen.
The doctors performed an emergency colostomy, and removed about a foot of bowel.
The colostomy bag will be a permanent fixture.
Yesterday, they weaned her off the BP meds that were keeping her pressure up to normal levels. We're hoping they'll be able to step her out of the ICU soon. The infection from the bowel rupture is clearing out.
The tumor they removed was cancerous. It was huge - about the size of a tennis ball. They removed an ovary that had another mass.
They're planning on getting her down for a cat scan today to see if her lungs and liver are clear.
This, boys and girls, THIS is why you get colonoscopies. The doctor told us if they'd found this sooner, they would have been able to save her bowel, and she'd still be able to poop in a toilet instead of a bag.
Thanks for your prayers!
